Memories…..

July 18th, 2007

When Sean and I moved into our townhouse over 3 years ago, we were the first one’s here. There were about 4 buildings built but 3 of them were still being finished on the inside, the rest of the area was dirt.

It was really quite interesting, the area was extremely quiet except for the construction, but even with that it was still more quiet than you would expect. The construction was up the road from us so it wasnt too close by and kept it quiet. We also never heard the new neighbors move in. And when the construction was done in the back and people were living there it was a surprise to see people driving up the road.

I do remember one of the first mornings we were here, I dont think the construction workers knew anyone had moved in, because one of them drove in blazing The Doors.  It was the only morning that happened. But once the construction moved around to the back of us we heard it more. And we also got to hear them at lunchtime. The majority of the constructions workers were hispanic and at lunch a food truck with specialty foods, taco’s and other yummy smelling items drove in to feed them. There would be wonderfully cheerful and sometimes really loud mariachi music playing while they took their lunch break. A few times during their break I would take Martin to check the mail and everyone would smile and say hi. It was a real treat and special to see this entire neighborhood built from the ground up.

Today, Im reminded of this because it’s Wednesday….which means the landscapers come to mow the lawn, trim the bushes, weed whack and everything else they do weekly. The landscapers are primarily hispanic as well, and since the windows are open in the summer I can hear them on their lunch break with the mariachi music. It doesnt bother me, I actually like it. And it reminds me of when I was pregnant with Ava and we had first moved in and we were so excited. Its nice to remember things like that when you are usually looking to the future and figuring out what you want in your next house.
