Resin jewelry step by step: The second layer

July 25th, 2007

Tonight is much like last night, get your glasses or goggles on and have your resin, hardner, mixing cup, stir stick, gloves, colorant and heat gun….
Supplies, night 3

1) Mix your 1 oz resin and 1 oz hardner in your mixing cup and then squeeze a bit of the white opaque colorant into the cup.It will sink to the bottom of the resin. And then stir it completely into the resin mixture, again avoiding “whipping”.

2) Then you will pour this into your molds that we filled yesterday….if they are hardened! Mine are so here we go. Fill it up to the top, trying not to overfill. This is messy and runny and hard to clean up so pour slowly

3) After the resin is poured into the molds go ahead and throw the cup and gloves and stir stick away.

4) Use the heat gun again about 6-8 inches away from the molds to heat it and pull out the teeny, tiny air bubbles.

5) Place it under a lamp again and now we’ll let it harden.

Once this hardenes then we will be able to unmold the whole piece, sand any rough edges and buff it to a nice shine! I’ll see you tomorrow!
