Favor bag tutorial!!!!

February 27th, 2008

It’s here! It’s here! I finally got to it……..and I hope you can understand it! I made the sample for the tutorial slightly different than the original. I used ribbon instead of a strip of paper for the handle and I used a sticker instead of the nesties for the closure. I wanted to do this partly because I know not everybody has nesties and stickers work just as well.

So here we go!

I have a picture of some basic supplies first, and I use a scorpal which makes this very easy and quick. If your trimmer has a scoring blade then you could of course use that. But truly the scorpal ROCKS!!! (I am not affiliated with them, I just love it!)

Step one:

Cut a piece of designer paper (not cardstock because it’s too heavy) to 5×3 inches. With the paper laying on your scorpal from 0-5 inches score it at 1 1/4 and 1 3/4 inches . This will create your front flap and the pocket for your nuggets. Then turn your paper vertically and score it so that the middle section is 2 1/4 inches wide. If you are using a scorpal then this is found between the 2 and 4 1/4 inch mark.

Step Two:

Take your scissors and snip the ends just to the score line at 1 1/4 and 1 3/4 inches. And fold in the paper so that you can move it around, it will look like this:

For the top cut, which will be your back you want to snip the sides at 1 1/4 inches. I dont score right there because I like the way it looks with the top flap clean, but if it makes it easier for you then go ahead. Then trim the excess paper following the scor lines from your back flap snips all the way to the end. The black lines in the picture above are where you want to cut. Once the excess is trimmed then use a corner rounder on the top edges.

Step Three:

To fold the sides, push the small flap from your 1/2 middle section up and then fold the front and back flaps over it. I used the scor tape to adhere them. You want to make sure to use tacky tape or red tape or anything similar. It will look like this:

Step Four:

For the handle you can either use a 5 inch thin strip of paper or a 5 inch piece of ribbon. I applied a small ammount of scor tape to the end of the ribbon and adhered it on the inside of the bag.

Once you have the other end of the ribon secured then you simply need to add your nuggets then pull the flap over and secure with a sticker or other closure.

If you have any questions (and I don’t blame you if you do) then feel free to leave a comment and ask, and I’ll be sure to answer it.

I justlove the favor bag. Thanks so much for the turorial. I have made a larger one using an A4 sheet of paper. I scored at 2.5″ 3″ and 5.5″. It worked out well. I have been given some lovely glittery card and I am now going to see what it turns out like. Thanks again Jill.
