You make my heart sing!

March 25th, 2008

The sketch challenge on SCS is probably my most FAVORITE of all the challenges, each week I look forward to it. I think I enjoy it so much because it isnt a challenge that requires items I might no have . Plus they are always posted late Tuesday night so it gives me a chance to work on it before bed.

I decided to whip out one of my favorite sets, ‘bird notes’ from Crafty Secrets. I’ve been seeing that new larger bird set and I think I’m going to have to get it. I just love birds.

heart-sing

Tons of sponging, and more sponging on this. Plus some good ol’ paper piercing on the ends for a little something.

And now my brain is mush and I have to go to bed! I’ve recently started taking some ambien to help with my insomnia and it’s working. Although I’m not used to being so tired, normally I’d have another couple hours of “up” in me!

I’ll have something sweet and soft for your tomorrow!

Stamps: Bird notes-crafty secrets
Ink: adirondack pitch black, antique linen distress linen, close to cocoa
CS: sahara sad, real red-SU  white-papertrey  cosmo cricket DP
Accessories: copics, dimensionals, paper piercer and template, sponge, gold brads

I like you a latte!

March 18th, 2008

Today I finally used the *perfect* ink for me and copics……adirondack pitch black! I had been using graphite brilliance black, but it needed to be heat set…….I am too impatient even with that small little step! It was seriously driving me banana’s! Then sometimes if I was feeling lazy I would use palette noir, but it would run if I went over the line. Anyway, I have seen on some other bloggers supply lists the pitch black so I decided to order some from Ellen’s store. I also ordered my first CHF stamp, “Pretty Pattern” BG, I LOVE it!

So I used my new goodies and one of my favorite, although terribly neglected sets from Crafty Secrets for todays SCS sketch challenge:

like-you-a-latte

I’m really digging that scalloped bottom, it reminds me of an apron!

This past weekend we got Audrey some new toys. After watching her at her different therapists and seeing what she is attracted to I went through our current toys and got some to put away and some to give away. Ava has always liked musical and light up toys but Audrey hasn’t been interested in them. She loves stacking, nesting and building toys. Luckily the kind she likes are CHEAP, lol! I also found the most awesome bubbles! They don’t leave a film on our hardwood so we don’t worry about the girls slippin’ and sliding after blowing a lot. And then I got a big tub of foam stickers from Michaels and the girls and I have been decorating the patio door every day.

This is HUGE for me! I have OCD and stupid things like making messes with stickers have been something I just would not do, especially sticking them to a nice clean glass door! But something has changed (slightly…..I’m not going crazy and messy) and I just decided that if it makes Audrey happy and keeps her interested and gets her to participate then I’m for doing it.

Along the OCD lines, Ava has finally given play-doh a chance! And she looooooves it! So we have had some wonderful afternoons of bubbles, stickers, play-doh and blocks the past few days.

And we’ve also introduced pictures at home for Audrey, I believe it’s officially called PECS. We take pictures of different things for her to choose what she wants to eat or play with. So in the kitchen we have different pictures of snacks and when she gets hungry she goes to them and picks one out and shows them to us and then we give her a snack. Little small baby steps of communication but they have made such a HUGE difference.

I’ll be back soon with a few more cards and some pictures of the sticker window!

Carte Postale

January 26th, 2008

Today is grey and raining, the perfect kind of day to get some stamping done! I knew I wanted to do Beate’s weekend sketch, so that was on the list. I also have 25 projects that I’m making that I can’t share just yet. Well I could, but I don’t want to, I’m keeping them to myself. But soon, I will unleash the 25 projects and you’ll be so sick of them, you’ll be begging me to see something else!

So for something I can show you…….I used my crafty secrets “French Mail” set for the weekend sketch. I just love this set, all the little elements that are just so perfect.

carte-postale

The DP on the card is from that set of pastel paper from crafty secrets. It has a cottage rose on one end, so I just cut it off before any of the pink showed. I thought it was a great match for SU sage shadow. And that little cherubs legs are so deliciously chubby, I just want to nibble on them!

Tonight is date night, so we are going to try to run some errands and throw in a little fun. We need to find a new car seat for Audrey, well Ava really. Audrey get’s Ava’s carseat so it just’s trickle down. But I love shopping for baby stuff, so I don’t mind, I can spend a lot of time and a lot of money in Babies R Us.

I hope you all are having a great weekend! Hopefully I’ll be back tomorrow with something cute!

A little eye candy

January 23rd, 2008

I got around to making a couple cards last night before my cold set in. I have had a fever off and on all night and today and I have a sore throat. Just plain icky feeling!

But before I got sick I tackled the MFT sketch challenge and the SCS sketch challenges. Here’s the MFT first:

Umbrella

I just love this set and my new paper! I got my package from All that scraps yesterday and there was loads of new paper for me! And some new dew drops, gotta love those! I colored the flower from the SU pretties kit with a copic to get a better match to the DP. I also drew under each raindrop with a sakura glitter pen, the rain was done in irridescent ice EP. And I added some waterfall stickles to the puddle. It’s raining glitter!

And here’s the SCS sketch challenge:

Perk-up

I’ve had this crafty secrets set for about a week and I have been dying to ink it up! I have been debating about this set for about 6 months or so and I finally caved in and got it, I love it! I just love retro stuff, so I knew I would like this set. I have my eye on 2 other crafty secrets sets…..in time. I used some more new DP ‘catching butterflies’ on this, the colors seemed to go so nicely with the image.

I am hoping to get the tutorial for the stamped pendants this weekend and also get the dimensions for the recipe box together too! I just have to do some other stuff first.

Tomorrow Sean and I are going to the Childrens Hospital for a class that is for parents with children who have autism. They hold the class once a quarter, so we “lucked” out that it happens right now. No luck I don’t think, too many coincidences for it all to be luck. Next week will be super busy for us, well actually the next 3 weeks and then I’m sure it will get even more crazy.

I still have my training at the gym Wed and Fridays, every other Monday is my therapist, every other Thursday is my psychiatrist,  on Tuesday Audrey has her OT/ST and then next Thursday (and the following 2 Thursdays) we are the the UW autism research center for the official diagnosis and to decide on treatment. And then the following Tuesday at 2pm we have someone coming to the house that’s from the Snohomish County autism center. They are meeting with us and finding out about Audrey and then they will send someone out to the house to work with us at home. Not too much time to spare.

Oh and next Wednesday is Ava’s 4th birthday, so throw that into the mix.

I’m gonna go crawl under a blanket and watch some tv with Ava. Have a great Wednesday!

Postcard from Paris

January 19th, 2008

I decided to tackle 2 sketches this weekend, and here is mine for Lauren. I took some liberty with the sketch and ommited the second circle and I’m having it represented with the love bird.

postcard-from-Paris

I really LOVE this set! I got 2 crafty secrets stamp sets and a pad of paper and I just love them! I love a lot of their sets actually! And you see that diamond pattern at the bottom? I think that might be my new favorite. Kind of like Beate’s obsession with the all in a row stamp!

I have to clean my craft room, it is sooooo messy and I cant stand it! I will do that tomorrow though, because tonight is DATE NIGHT! Hoooray!

My first cigar box and 1 layer cards

December 8th, 2007

So without saying too much because I have no idea if they read my blog I want to show you what I’ve been up to today. I really dont think “they” read this so I’m pretty safe. But still I will be vague as to who this is for.

I have had a dream for a couple years now to make some wine themed cards. Very simple, one layer cards. And a couple months ago I found a wine set from Crafty Secrets and I was soooooo thrilled! I knew it would be wonderful to make my cards with. So I made 8 cards today, all one layer colored with my copics. Only 4 of them have ribbon and the rest are completely flat. And they are all different, I love that! I’m really happy with how they turned out!

A's-gift-cards

Now, maybe I’m wrong because I’ve been staring at these all day but I LOVE them! Im so happy with how simple, yet elegant they turned out! I used the amazing Papertrey white CS to make these with. I am not over gushing about that CS either, it is fabulous! I couldnt dream of making a 1 layer card with SU cardstock.

And of course those cards need a home so I altered one of the cigar boxes from Papertrey.  I used the “Spiral bouquet” set in graphite brilliance black ink and made 2 sheets of 8.5×11 patterend paper. The black has variations in the coverage and at first I started to worry, but I kinda like it. I think it adds some character. And you know what else adds some character? That left side of the box that shows the top is offset, LOL!!!! I used the acetate sheet that comes with your stamps that seperates them to make a window on the cut out, and floated a monogram. Dont throw that stuff away! It’s all GOLD I tell ya!

A's-gift-box

Ok, I really like this set, I knew I would. And I LOVE the monogram set as well. I guess I just love Papertrey, and seriously who doesnt?

I also stamped and wrapped 2 HUGE bags of nuggets to send out with the presents! YUM!!! And I made another stationary set. But I cant show that because I know they read my blog.

I still have 2 VERY special projects to do with ’spiral bouquet’ and 3 or 4 more gifts to make tomorrow. But first I think I want to play with my new MFT sets that came today. Hopefully I will have more to show later today, Im so excited to play with my new MFT!

Time for a change of pace

November 17th, 2007

Here’s a card that’s comletely opposite of my last card, soft vintage and beautiful! I decided to finally try one of Jen’s “sketch for you to try”, she holds them every Friday but I’ve not done one before. I looked at her site today and saw the sketch, then a wonderful package came in the mail with a new “bird notes” stamp set! How fun!

I’ll post the instructions after the picture, as it was nice and simple and I think makes a great card for mass producing. Sean and I are going to see Kathy Griffin tonight, Im very excited! I love her stand up and watching her “My life on the D-list” on Bravo, she really makes me laugh! My Mom is coming over to babysit the girls, so we are going to stop and have a quick bite then go see the show. She’s playing at the Paramount tonight, for any of you Seattle gal’s who know the city.

Bird-Note

Instructions:

1) I started with a piece of chocolate chip CS cut and folded to standard size.
2) Next I cut soft sky CS to 4 1/4x 5 1/4 and stamped the feather image onto it with soft sky ink, the birdy feet in chocolate chip, then used my ticket corner punch on the four corners.
3) Then I stamped the bird and crown in stazon brown onto Papertrey white CS and used my oval nesties to cut it out.
4) I then cut out a coordinating size in chocolate chip with another nesty.
5) Then I watercolored the bird with creamy caramel and heavily diluted chocolate chip ink, and made a ground out of the same combination.
6) I also used a white signo gel pen to highlight some feathers, a glaze pen for sparkle on the crown and sponged the edges in chocolate chip ink.
7) This was then adhered to the chocolate chip oval.
8) Next I wrapped some chocolate satin ribbon around the sky layer then adhered the oval bird to the right of the card.
9) I made a seperate bow with the ribbon and adhered it to the left of the bird with glue dots.
10) This was all adhered to the chocolate chip base with dimensionals.
11) Finally I adhered 4 cream halfback pearls to the four corners.
