Unity for cardmakers, scrapbookers and jewelry designers!

July 9th, 2008

One of the things I love so much about the Unity Stamp images are they are so visually appealing! There is something for everyone! When looking through the images, what I like to see is versatility. Not just for paper crafts, but to see if I can extend it to anything else. There are so many images that are perfect for jewelry design, and I am so excited to share this project with you.

The picture below has the basic supplies; polymer clay, rolling pin, cookie cutters, embossing powders and inks. The rolling pin and cutters were all in the cake decorating dept. at Michaels, as they are used for fondant. But the roller comes with attachments on the end to allow you an even thickness and the cutters are sized right for what I have needed so far. PLUS they were all super cheap! After standing and staring at the polymer clay accessories thinking there had to be something cheaper……..I walked to the other side of the store!

supplies

You will roll out your clay and then cut in the desired shape, place on parchment paper lined cookie sheet and bake 15 minutes at 275. EASY!!!!

To stamp and emboss an image on the clay you need to use either a craft ink, versamark OR brilliance graphite ink. The brilliance is a thicker ink and holds onto the embossing powder the same as the craft or sticky versamark.

I used the round shaped tree from Tiny Trinity for this pendant:

stamped-and-EP

Using your heat gun on this is similar to on paper, you want to watch the EP “change” and get glossy to know it is done. Then you can color it in! YEP, copic markers work on polymer clay! They have much more texture and look like painting, but I really like the effect.

colored-in

I started with a pale olive, then added olive to it. You can see that it starts to look like stained glass, with the different colors peeking through.

detail

I wanted to add even more texture, so I used some lace stickles on the tips of the leaves and poured microbeads onto it.

microbeads

I have these punched metal tins from Making Memories that I love to use in jewerly. You can stamp on them, do photo transfers…..just ton’s of fun stuff. The sad thing is that they are discontinued and I have had to do lots of ebaying to keep up a good supply. I adhered the clay to the metal base with resin.

metal-base

To finish the piece, I added half back pearls, some jewelry findings and platinum stickles around the pendant.

finished

The great thing about using your stamps for jewelry is that you can make it as simple or detailed as you want. You don’t need the metal base, or coloring. Simply stamping and embossing then giving a sealant in resin would look fabulous.

I hope I have inspired you to look at your stamps a little differently. Take a look at your stamps, notice how the design looks on a smaller scale by stamping it and then punching out a small circle. The possibilities of stamping with clay are pretty big and I’m excited to share even more of those with you throughout the month!

Please let me know if you have any questions, or if you try this! I would love to see your creation!

Favor bag tutorial!!!!

February 27th, 2008

It’s here! It’s here! I finally got to it……..and I hope you can understand it! I made the sample for the tutorial slightly different than the original. I used ribbon instead of a strip of paper for the handle and I used a sticker instead of the nesties for the closure. I wanted to do this partly because I know not everybody has nesties and stickers work just as well.

So here we go!

I have a picture of some basic supplies first, and I use a scorpal which makes this very easy and quick. If your trimmer has a scoring blade then you could of course use that. But truly the scorpal ROCKS!!! (I am not affiliated with them, I just love it!)

favor-basic-supplies

Step one:

Cut a piece of designer paper (not cardstock because it’s too heavy) to 5×3 inches. With the paper laying on your scorpal from 0-5 inches score it at 1 1/4 and 1 3/4 inches . This will create your front flap and the pocket for your nuggets. Then turn your paper vertically and score it so that the middle section is 2 1/4 inches wide. If you are using a scorpal then this is found between the 2 and 4 1/4 inch mark.

Step Two:

Take your scissors and snip the ends just to the score line at 1 1/4 and 1 3/4 inches. And fold in the paper so that you can move it around, it will look like this:

scored,-cut-with-lines

For the top cut, which will be your back you want to snip the sides at 1 1/4 inches. I dont score right there because I like the way it looks with the top flap clean, but if it makes it easier for you then go ahead. Then trim the excess paper following the scor lines from your back flap snips all the way to the end. The black lines in the picture above are where you want to cut. Once the excess is trimmed then use a corner rounder on the top edges.

Step Three:

To fold the sides, push the small flap from your 1/2 middle section up and then fold the front and back flaps over it. I used the scor tape to adhere them. You want to make sure to use tacky tape or red tape or anything similar. It will look like this:

favor-ends-folded-and-taped

Step Four:

For the handle you can either use a 5 inch thin strip of paper or a 5 inch piece of ribbon. I applied a small ammount of scor tape to the end of the ribbon and adhered it on the inside of the bag.

favors-ribbon-attached

Once you have the other end of the ribon secured then you simply need to add your nuggets then pull the flap over and secure with a sticker or other closure.

If you have any questions (and I don’t blame you if you do) then feel free to leave a comment and ask, and I’ll be sure to answer it.

Simple, playful, fluffles

August 15th, 2007

Yes, I’ve got that ol’ cat scratch fever! And it goes by the name of FLUFFLES! :)

In my order from frugalities today were 3 more fluffles stamps, including the ladybug fluffles. And for those of you who’ve been to my house, you’ll know my youngest daughter Audrey’s room has a ladybug theme. And you know my love of ladybugs, so how could I possibly resist Sir Fluffles with ladybugs? ;)

ladybug-fluffles

Instructions:

1. Starting with a piece of real red CS at 5 1/2 x 4 1/2.
2. Then I cut a piece of whisper white at 5 x 4 and made it into fun background paper using autumn leaves flowers set. I used a single flower image in barely banana first and then in real red on top. And then I used a sponge and barely banana ink to sponge the edges.
3. I adhered this piece to the card and then used my cropadile to place the white brad/eyelets in the four corners.
4. Cutting a piece of whisper white to 2 1/2 x 2 and stamping fluffles in stazon black. I then colored the image with my marvelous markers. And then sponged around the edge in real red ink.
5. Next I cut a piece of barely banana at 2 3/4 x 2 3/4 and attatched fluffles with dimensionals to the banana and then the banana to the base with dimensionals.
6. Finally I used candy cane stickles onto the ladybugs to make them extra fun and special.

I hope you enjoy this fast little card. I loved the flower image as a background stamp! Actually all of the images in that set are wonderful for backgrounds.

And Im so happy to have made 2 cards tonight so that tomorrow I can play with my glass soldering more! I made a pendant on Monday night, but it is obviously something that takes time and practice to perfect. After all, we are talking about melting silver and creating something smooth and pretty with it!

Please stay tuned tomorrow for your chance to win some CS and other goodies due to my cleaning house and organizing my craft room! :)

The DEETS:

CS: Real red, barely banana, whisper white-SU
Ink: Real red, barely banana-SU stazon black. Marvelous markers in certainly celery, real red, creamy caramel, barely banana, apricot appeal, pretty in pink and bordering blue.
Stamps: fluffles and ladybugs and autumn leaves flowers set
Accessories: sponge, white brad eyelets and stampin dimensionals.

Cherry Blossom

August 15th, 2007

I love cherry blossoms, they signify springtime to me. Every year around the first week of March the tree’s in the neighborhood start to bloom with beautiful pink blossoms, it’s simply gorgeous! When I saw the cherry blossom stamp from stampendous on frugalities, I knew I would love using it.

Today I received my packages from both frugalities and eclectic paperie….it was a good mail day! And when I opened the prima flowers, in person the colors matched even better to rose red, old olive and regal rose then I expected. So with the new stamp and prima flowers in mind and the inspiration of the blooming tree’s of spring, I made this card.

cherry-blossom

And this is how I made it:

1. Starting with a piece of chocolate chip at 5 1/2 x 4 1/2.
2. Next I took a piece of Au Chocolate DP and cut it at 2 1/2 x 3 3/4. It was the same piece of paper but it’s double sided so I flipped one piece to give some contrast. I then glued them onto the base.
3. For the image I cut a piece of white CS at 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 and then stamped the cherry blossom in chocolate chip. I then colored the blossom in with my marvelous markers in old olive, rose red and regal rose.
4. Then I collected flowers from the prima jar and found the sizes I wanted and placed them onto the image with a little glue.
5. Using a sponge and old olive ink I went around the edge for shading. Then I went over the olive with rose red ink.
6. I placed the image onto a piece of old olive cardstock and trimmed neatly around the edge to give a small layer.
7. Next I placed those two layers onto a piece of rose red CS and trimmed again.
8. With a piece of white ribbon and chocolate ribbon I adhered them to the front of the card.
9. Finally I placed the layerd image onto the cardfront with stampin dimensionals.

I really like how the prima flowers matched so well with the SU inks. And Im also happy that the image I had in mind when purchasing these items came through when I made the card.

It was a good night in the craft room! :)

The DEETS:

CS: Chocolate chip, Au Chocolate, rose red, old olive, whisper white-SU
Ink: Rose red, old olive, chocolate chip and regal rose-SU

Lotsa little flowers

August 14th, 2007

I’ve been playing bingo over at Barb’s for about a week now and I’m still not close to winning anything! But I am plugging away, trying to get more numbers called. She posted a color challenge of pink, brown and green and those colors are right up my alley! So here is my contribution to the game.

Lotsa little flowers

And if your interested, here’s how it was made.

1. Starting with a 5 1/2 x 4 1/2 piece of old olive that I sponged around the edge with old olive ink. On the bottom half of the card I stamped the single flower image from “looks like spring” in old olive ink.
2. I then cut a 5 1/2 x 3 piece of designer paper that I bought from Michaels and wrapped a piece of pink ribbon around the middle that was from the “flirty” collection last winter. I adhered that to the base and then added 4 antique gold brads on the corners.
3. Next I cut 5 1/2 x 1/4 strips of pretty in pink and chocolate chip and glued them right below.
4. In chocolate chip ink I stamped the happiness sentiment from ‘wonderful words’ in the bottom left hand corner.
5. The flowers in the right hand corner are from creative wholesale and I layered smaller flowers into the larger ones. Then I used a dab of strawberry ice stickles in the center and glued them in place.
6. For the large flower, I used the rock and roll technique with pretty in pink and chocolate chip on pretty in pink CS. Then I took the versamark marker and colored the small similar flower from the 3 flower stamp and placed that in the middle. I then poured clear EP on it and set it with my heat gun and then cut it out with my paper snips.
7. I then held the flower ontop of a piece of chocolate chip CS and loosely cut a similar shape for the background. I mouted each piece with a stampin dimensional on the card front.
8. Finally I punched out flowers with the flower bouquet punch in pretty in pink and chocolate chip and then offset them on top of eachother and secured them with antique gold brads. Then I used stampin dimensionals again to set the flowers.

And there you have another quick and easy card for the bingo game! I hope this helps my luck…….or somebody else’s luck tomorrow!

The DEETS:
Stamps: Looks like spring, warm words-SU
Ink: Pretty in pink, chocolate chip, old olive, versamark-SU
CS: Old olive, pretty in pink, chocolate chip-SU Michaels 49 cent DP
Accessories: Spring bouquet punch, antique gold brads, stampin dimensionals, clear embossing powder, sponge, pink “flirty” ribbon-SU flowers from creative wholesale

Two, two, two challenges in one!

August 13th, 2007

Tonight’s card covers both Beate’s sketch challenge and Rhi’s challenge for metal! My first round of goodies came today, and all that scraps was the fastest shipper. In the package was a bottle of silver liquid pearl, pink liquid pearl, strawberry ice stickles and this cute “fluffles and baubles” stamp.

I actually got 3 packages today, one from creative wholesale with my resin mixing cups and dogwood flower assortment. One from ebay for acryllic blocks. Which were an AWESOME deal! I got 8 with a storage box for $17, and that included shipping! The blocks by the way are very nice quality, thick and many different sizes. And the last package was from all that scraps. Quite an exciting day at the mail box!

Here’s little Fluffie McFluffenheim:

fluffies!

If your interested, here’s how little fluffles was made:

1. Starting with a piece of cranberry crisp 5 1/2 x 4 1/2.
2. Next I stamped fluffles in stazon black onto whisper white and then colored him in with my blender pens, classic inks, WWC and the liquid pearls. Then I cut him out with my round coluzzle and sponged the edges in mellow moss and cranberry crisp.
3. I then cut out the next largest size circle and sponged the edges in mellow moss and mounted the two together.
4. With a piece of whisper white cut to 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 I stamped the swirly image (from a cheapie $1 clear set from Michaels) in barely banana, mellow moss and cranberry crisp.
5. Then I cut a piece of mellow moss at 2 3/4 x 3 3/4 and adhere both layers and then mounted them with dimensionals on the card front.
6. Using a dimensional on one side of fluffles and glue on the other I placed him next to the rectangle.
7. With cranberry crisp ink I stamped the “enjoy” sentiment, again from the $1 Michaels set in the bottom right hand corner.
8. Finally I punched holes with my hand held punch and placed two silver brads on either side.

I finished all of my Holiday swaps tonight and next I need to make six cards for another swap. But tomorrow Im going to play with some resin or my glass soldering as well!

The DEETS:

Stamps: fluffles and baubles-stampendous, Michaels $1 clear stamp set
Ink: Cranberry crisp, mellow moss, barely banana-SU, stazon black
CS: Cranberry crisp, mellow moss, barely banana, whisper white-SU
Accessories: Blender pens, WWC, pink and silver liquid pearls, stampin dimensionals and silver brads.

Hip, hip, hooray!

August 12th, 2007

Tonight I had too many things going on in my head while in the craft room. I had a new, big tv upstairs calling my name. Im working on my Holiday swap cards, which will be done tomorrow. My craft room is a mess. I just got my new table in the craft room for jewelry making. I just got all my glass soldering supplies and Im itching away to make something. Plus Im just exhausted, mentally and physically. It’s only been a week with my new crazy schedule and Im not used to running here and there every single day.

So with all of that on my brain plus my complete lack of embellishment supplies I probably shouldnt have made a card. But when Beate has a sketch challenge and I havent made one by Sunday I feel like a kid with homework that’s going to be late. I love doing her challenges because she has such awesome sketches that really help to teach me to think outside my comfort zone.

Here is Senor crabby pants:

hip-to-the-hippity-hop

Shabby Chic-mas

August 8th, 2007

After a 3 mile walk this evening I finally felt better about returning to my craft room. I put that ugly card behind me, and looked forward and found inspiration in a completely different way.

I am extremely low on supplies: paper, ribbon, adhesives and now I’m out a corner punch as well! So the saying “necessity is the mother of invention” is an understatement in the making of this card. I was out of pretty in pink CS, so I made my own by sponging it.

But it was with a vintage, shabby chic inspired theme in mind that I designed this card. And with the intention of proving to myself I could make something pretty today. Here it is:

Shabby Chic-mas

I tried to give the illusion of ornaments, and give them the center of attention. And decided to use the stamps as the background. I must admit that I really like them as a background. When I stamped out the paper with the snowflakes, it looked like something that should be available to buy. Somewhere, I’m sure there is pink snowflake paper…there just has to be!

1. First I started out with a piece of mellow moss cut to 5 ½ by 8 ½, scored in half and the sponged around the edge with mellow moss ink.Next I cut a piece of white CS 4 ¼ x 3 ¾. I stamped the snowflakes in pretty in pink ink. Then I sponged the edges with pretty in pink and then right around the rim in mellow moss.2. With a versa mark pad, I took the most open patterned snowflake stamp and made a few random hits on the paper. I poured some heat and stick on it, hit it with the heat gun and then put dazzling diamonds glitter on it and heated it again.

3.  With my trusty cropadile, I set 4 pretty in pink eyelets around the corners.

4.  Using a marvy circle punch (it’s either 1 3/8 or 1 ½) I punched two circles out of white CS. Then I heavily sponged them with pretty in pink ink. Then I pressed them against the versa mark pad, poured heat and stick on it and hit it with the heat gun. Then I used pink glitter and hit it again with heat.

5.  I cut a piece of pink gingham ribbon to size (I held it where I wanted the ornament to be on the card front and then gave it enough slack for the back.) then adhered it to the back of the white cardstock and the back of the pink ornament.

6.  Then I attached the ornaments to the snowflake background with a stampin dimensional.

7.  Next I cut a piece of 3 inch ribbon and made a bow then trimmed the ends and glued it in place on the long piece of ribbon.

8.  Using chocolate chip ink, I stamped out the sentiment “be merry” from the warm words set. I cut that out with the smallest oval coluzzle shape and then sponged the edge in pretty in pink and mellow moss.

9.  With chocolate chip CS I cut out the next size of oval coluzzle shape and glued the two together.

10. Finally, I attached the layered sentiment to the card front with a stampin dimensional.

I hope you like this different take on a Christmas card. I was happy that it turned out, and I can now sleep well. See you tomorrow! The DEETS:Stamps: Snow flurries, warm words-SU
Ink: pretty in pink, mellow moss, chocolate chip, versa mark-SU
CS: mellow moss, white, chocolate chip-SU

Accessories: heat and stick powder, sponges, pink glitter, dazzling diamonds, stampin dimensional’s, pink gingham ribbon and pretty in pink eyelets.

Welcome, baby

August 7th, 2007

I decided to play BINGO over at Barbs card creations and here is my first entry in the challenge!

I bought this set, ‘welcome, little one’ after I had just had my youngest baby thinking I would hold onto it for that one day I might need to use it for another baby. That day isnt here, but that doesnt mean I cant practice making cards! ;)

Welcome, little one

Instructions:

  1. Starting with a piece of mellow moss cut and folded to standard card size I stamped the floral background image in mellow moss ink, and the dragged a sponge in mellow moss ink around the edges.
  2. Next I cut a piece of almost amethyst at 4 1/2 wide and then lay it ontop of the mellow moss. I used a ruler and drew lines where I wanted it to be cut at and then used the paper cutter to make it so.
  3. I then used my signo gel pen and made a stitch around the edge of it and then adhered it to the mellow moss cardstock. Then I used my cropadile and attatched mellow moss eyelets to the two right hand corners.
  4. Then I cut a piece of white cardstock at 2 x 3 and stamped the baby in stazon black.  Using blender pens and watercolor wonder crayons I colored in the image, and then sponged the edges in mellow moss.
  5. After that I cut a piece of barely banana to 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 and then crumpled it in my hands, used a file to soften the edge more and then randomly dragged it onto the barely banana ink pad to give it a baby blanket ‘quilty’ feeling.
  6. I glued those two layers together then put silver brads through both layers and used a stampin dimensional to put it on the cardfront.
  7. Using my oval coluzzle I cut out two of the smallest ovals and then folded them in half and glued them to the top and bottom of the left hand side of the card. I then glued two small mellow moss buttons onto the yellow ovals.
  8. Finally I stamped the baby bracelet image in stazon black and colored that in with blender pens and watercolor wonder crayons. I attatched it right under the baby image and then once in place I used crystal stickles to put a little dab of glitter on each of the beads of the bracelet.

The DEETS:

Stamps: Welcome, little one-SU
CS: Mellow moss, almost amethyst, barely banana, white-SU
Ink: mellow moss, barely banana, stazon black
Accessories: mellow moss eyelets, silver brads, stampin dimensionals, mellow moss buttons, oval coluzzle, crystal stickles, blender pens and watercolor wonder crayons.
